The Meaning of “Blessed Be The Poor in Spirit”?

Who Are the Poor in Spirit? And Why are they Blessed? – Meaning of Matthew 5:3

“Blessed be the poor in spirit, for theirs is the dominion of heaven.”  -Matthew 5:3

Someone asked Billy Graham what did Jesus mean by we ought to be poor in spirit and should not we attempt to be rich in spirit? Graham brilliantly answered with the following:

“What did He mean? Simply this: We ought to be humble in our spirits. If you placed the word “humble” in place of the word “poor,” you will know what He meant.

In other words, when we come to God, we must know our own sin and our spiritual emptiness and poverty. We need to not be self-happy or proud in our hearts, questioning we don’t really need God. If we’re, God cannot bless us. The Bible says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).”

There is a place for laughter. And there may be also a place for sorrow. Jesus said, “Blessed be the poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3), folks who see themselves as they are after which take action. The Bible says, “For the type of sorrow God needs us to experience leads us far from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that form of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death” (2 Corinthians 7:10). True sorrow will cause joy, because you notice your genuine kingdom, decide to do something about it, and repent. But without that sorrow, there might be no joy.

Sometimes we are sorry for the repercussions of what we’ve got carried out. If you’re rushing and notice the dual carriageway patrol within the rearview replicate, with lighting flashing, you’re sorry. But it might be not due to the fact you broke the speed restriction, however due to the fact you failed to appear more carefully for the dual carriageway patrol. You are also sorry due to the fact your insurance costs will cross up. The question is, next time will you gradual down, or will you continue to speed? Sometimes we are sorry for the repercussions, however we are not sorry for the act. We aren’t sorry sufficient to forestall doing it.
