Dr. Roger Barrier describes the biblical doctrine of the “Baptism with the Holy Spirit” as the subsequent:

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit happens at conversion (1 Corinthians 12:13; 6:19). It isn’t always followed by the gift of speaking in tongues. It could be honest to mention that most Christians do not speak in tongues after they get hold of Christ.

The word, “baptism” means to “dip in” or to “immerse” For example, in the “Odyssey”, Odysseus escaped from the Cyclops via sticking (the Greek word is “baptized”) a stake into his eye. Odysseus did not sprinkle it in. He immersed it deeply. In the Bible “baptize” in no way mean “to sprinkle” as a few educate these days. When we receive Christ, we are immersed (“baptized”) fully with Holy Spirit into Christ and into the circle of relatives of God (as an instance, study Romans 6:1-10).

What Is Baptism With The Holy Spirit
The baptism of the Holy Spirit may be defined as that work whereby the Spirit of God places the believer into union with Christ and into union with other believers

The Baptism with the Holy Spirit is received with an easy faith in Christ. The Baptism follows routinely, positioning us in Christ and cementing us securely into the circle of relatives of God. Paul taught these “function in Christ” principles in Colossians 2:12.

Peter also enunciated them in 1 John 4:15. The baptism of the Spirit refers to the brand new Believer’s incorporation into the body of Christ by a spiritual-natural union effected by the Holy Spirit. Peter claim the equal in his sermon in Acts 2:28. The new Christian is now “in Christ”.

The Baptism in the Spirit is permanent and is bestowed at conversion. It isn’t always to be repeated (Acts 2:38). There is no Scripture textual content urging believers these days to seek for the Spirit’s Baptism.

The point is that it isn’t always feasible to get hold of what we already have!

On the other hand, what the Bible does urge us to seeking and get hold of is the filling of the Holy Spirit. The key verse here is Ephesians 5:18: “Do not get inebriated on wine … Instead, be full of the Spirit.” The time period “be crammed” is frequently translated in Greek as “hold on being stuffed” with the Spirit. It is a continual gift stressful.

From this, we deduce that the filling of the Spirit isn’t always everlasting, but is to be repeated time and again. As a under the influence of alcohol is saturated and under the direct influence of alcohol, so we are to stay saturated and beneath the direct affect of the Holy Spirit.

When Does the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” Occur in the Life of a Believer?

Sam Storms talks about while the Baptism of the Holy Spirit happens in the life of a Christian:

Yeah, it’s a superb question which unluckily, as you already know, has divided Evangelicals from Pentecostals. I individually believe that sprit baptism occurs on the point of conversion for all Christians.

I think when you’re born again, you placed your faith in Christ, Jesus immerses you in the Holy Spirit and also you receive the fullness of the spirits’ presence. He indwells you from that point on for all time. That I think is what the New Testaments talking about when it uses the language of baptism in the spirit.

Now I additionally trust that there is biblical justification for what we call post conversion encounters with the spirit. So some Christians might surely need to call this the filling of the spirit or some would possibly want to call it an anointing of the spirit. Philippians 1, Paul talks about the availability of the spirit. I’m taking into account Galatians 3 and 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul talks about God always giving the spirit.

So I could want to stand with my Pentecostal charismatic brothers and sisters and say, “You’re right. There are multiple encounters with the spirit of God once we get saved throughout the course of our Christian life. Maybe through the impartation of a spiritual gift or empowerment for evangelism or deepened intimacy with Christ.

But let not call the ones spirit baptism.” And I need to trust my Evangelical brother and sisters and say, “You’re right, spirit baptism occurs for every Christian in the intervening time in their conversion. But let not lose sight of the fact that there are a couple of publish conversion encounters and reviews with the spirit of God.”

Let me just give a brief example that would assist. I use this case in the Chapter. It’s like if you have a headache and also you stated, “Sam, do you have got some Tylenol?” I say, “Yeah.” And I pull out and I give you a touch bottle and you take more than one drug and your headache is going away.

And then later I find out that what I actually gave you was Aspirin, and I stated, “You know what? I got to make an apology, I known as this Tylenol. In fact, it was Aspirin.” And your response is, “I don’t care what you call it, it worked. It had medicinal strength and my headache’s long past.”

So my point is this, the question is, “Did you have a real experience with the spirit of God? Did you have come across that was life converting and is it justified in scripture?” That’s the issue. Whether you call it spirit baptism or I call it spirit filling, without a doubt, in the final analysis, does it be counted?

The question is, “Did we in reality have come across with the spirit of God that is biblically warranted and actually results in a transformed life?” And I assume if Christians can include that, maybe some of this division among the Pentecostal charismatic and Evangelicals would begin to depart.
