What It Means:

Some translations use a word like: “having girded your loins with truth” (NASB). Loin is an unusual word in cutting-edge vernacular. It refers to the lower back but consists of the crotch place. In ancient days, men could put on long robe that could get in the way of work or preventing, in order that they would wrap up the lengthy, draping fabric. This was girding up one’s loins.

The Lord knew our loins had to be wrapped in fact.  Regardless of the culture or time we live in, the Lord has seen all the paths we’ve taken and how they’ve harm and derailed us. He is aware of we need fact.

Our identification is more than our sexuality, but that is one aspect of our lives that we regularly view as a definer. The first region of life where the enemy often tries to rattle is our experience of identification. And the things concerning intercourse are clean pickings for him. We want freedom regarding sexuality. We want truth about who we’re. And only Jesus is the Truth that sets us free.

David Chadwick said it this way in his Moments of Hope devotional:

“The first piece of the armor is the belt of fact. Truth, by its very definition, is distinctive. It means something is genuine and other things are lies. The evil one is the father of lies (John 8:44). Every lie finds its origin in him.

“Every other piece of the full armor of God is connected to the belt of truth. If you don’t begin with truth, you’ll never defeat the enemy. And Jesus said God’s Word is truth (John 17:17).”

What it Means and How Jesus Applied It

The explanation of this piece of armor is right there in the verse – it is the word of God. And it is the only piece of armor this is every protective and offensive. Greg Laurie explains similarly:

“When we are tempted, the most effective weapon that God has given to us as believers is the sword of the Spirit, that is the Word of God.

“Jesus modeled this so fantastically throughout His temptation in the barren region. When the satan attempted temptation after temptation against Him, Jesus used the sword of the Spirit (see Luke 4:1–13).”

When the devil tempted him 3 times, Jesus responded with the truth of God’s word – every time.
