Story of Cain and Abel

What the Bible Says About Cain

Doomed to be a wanderer and a fugitive in the earth, he went forth into the “land of Nod”, i.e., the land of “exile”, that is stated were in the “east of Eden,” and there he built a city, the first we study of, and referred to as it after his son’s name, Enoch. What the Bible Says About Abel

His name mean “a breath, or vanity, a grassy place, a meadow”. He was second son of Adam and Eve. He was put to death with his brother Cain (Genesis 4:1-16). Or, In the traits of the offering. Cain delivered of the fruit of the floor, any element that came subsequent to hand, what he had not occasion for himself or what was not marketable. But Abel was curious in the choice of his imparting: not the lame, nor the lean, nor the refuse, but the firstlings of the flock —the pleasant he had, and the fats thereof —the exceptional of these exceptional.

The great distinction was that Abel offered in faith, and Cain did not. There was a distinction in the precept upon which they went. Abel offered with a watch to God’s will as his rule, and God’s glory as his end, and in dependence upon the promise of a Redeemer; but Cain did what he did only for employer’s sake, or to save his credit, not in faith, and so it was sin to him. Abel was a penitent believer, like the publican that went away justified: Cain was un-humbled; his self belief was in himself; he was just like the Pharisee who glorified himself, but was not a lot as justified before God. The Anger and Sin of Cain

The Mark of Cain

Genesis 4:15 states “But the LORD said to him, “Not so ; anybody who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no person who find him could kill him, about which there may be a spread of sentiments.” Some say the mark of Cain was a horn in his forehead: others, a leprosy in his face; others, a wild ghastly appearance; others, a shaking and trembling in all his limbs; and others, that there was an earthquake wherever he stepped: and others could have it, that the canine which guarded Abel’s flock was given him to accompany him in his travels, with which sign it is probably regarded that he was not to be attacked, or to direct him from taking any dangerous street: a few say it was a letter imprinted on his brow, both taken out of the superb and superb name of God, as the Targum of Jonathan, or out of his personal call, as Jarchi; others the mark or signal of the covenant of circumcision but because the word is regularly used for a signal or miracle, perhaps the better rendering and experience of the words can be, “and the Lord placed”, or “gave a signal” that is, he wrought a miracle before him to assure him, that “whoever found him must no longer kill him”: so that this was not a mark or signal to others, to direct or factor out to them that they have to now not kill him, or to discourage them from it; however was a sign or miracle confirming him on this, that nobody must kill him; agreeably to that’s the word of Aben Ezra, “it’s right in my eyes that God made a signal (or wrought a miracle) for him, till he believed;” via which he was assured that his life could be relaxed, cross in which he could; even that no person ought to “strike” F4 him, because the word is, plenty much less kill him. Genesis 4:1-16
