The detail story of the walls of Jericho

The Bible Story of the walls of Jericho is found in the book of Joshua, chapter 6. This was the first conquest of the Israelites as they set out to win the land of Canaan.

Scouts from the Israelites crept into the walled town of Jericho and hid on the house of Rahab, cited as a prostitute. Rahab had faith in God and informed the Israelites of Jericho’s fear pronouncing “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a remarkable fear of you has fallen on us so that everyone who live on this land are melting in fear because of you.”

She helped the scouts hide from the king’s soldier, then miss a window when you consider that her residence was placed next to the city wall. Rahab demanded the spies verify an oath as she swore not to give their plans away, and congruently, they vowed to spare Rahab and her family while the warfare of Jericho befell. She was to fasten a scarlet rope in her window as the symbol of their protection.

God instructed Joshua with an unusual mean for the battle of Jericho. He told Joshua to have his navy march across the town as soon as a day for six straight days.  While marching, the soldier played their trumpets as the priest carried the Ark of the Covenant around the city of Jericho.

On the 7th day, the Israelites marched around the partitions of Jericho seven times. Joshua assured them that by God’s order, every person in the city should be slain, besides Rahab and her own family. All items of silver, gold, bronze, and iron were to go into the Lord’s depository.

At Joshua’s order, the men produced a powerful roar, and Jericho’s partitions miraculously fell down. The Israelite army raced in fast conquering the city and, as promised, only Rahab and her own family had been spared.

Joshua 2

1 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he stated, “in particular Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there. 2 The king of Jericho was informed, “Look, some of the Israelites have come here this night to secret agent out the land.” 3 So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your home, due to the fact they have come to undercover agent out the complete land.” 4 But the woman had taken the 2 men and hidden them. She stated, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from. 5 At nightfall, when it was time to close the town gate, they left. I don’t know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You might also seize up with them.” 6 (But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax she had laid out on the roof.) 7 So the men set out in pursuit of the spies on the road that results in the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as the pursuers had gone out, the gate was shut. 8 Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof 9, and said to them, “I know that the LORD has given you this land and that an exceptional fear of you has fallen on us, so that each one who live on this land are melting in fear due to you. 10 We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you while you got here out of Egypt, and what you probably did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s braveness failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and in the world beneath. 12 “Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you may show kindness to my circle of relatives, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a certain signal 13 that you may spare the lives of my family, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will keep us from death.” 14 “Our lives to your lives!” the men assured her. “If you don’t tell what we’re doing, we will deal with you kindly and faithfully while the LORD offers us the land.” 15 So she let them down with a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was a part of the town wall. 16 She stated to them, “Go to the hills so the pursuers will not find you. Hide yourselves there 3 days till they return, and then go to your way.” 17 Now the men had stated to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us 18 until, while we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window via which you allow us to down, and until you’ve got delivered your mothers and fathers, your brothers and all your own family into your property. 19 If any of them cross out of doors your property into the road, their blood can be on their own heads; we are able to not be accountable. As for folks who are in the place with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them. 20 But if you tell what we are doing, we will be released from the oath you made us swear.” 21 “Agreed,” she answered. “Let or not it’s as you are saying.” So she sent them away, and that they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window. 22 When they left, they went into the hills and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had searched all alongside the road and return without finding them. 23 Then the 2 men started out returned. They went down out of the hills, forded the river and came to Joshua son of Nun and instructed him the whole lot that had befell to them. 24 They stated to Joshua, “The LORD has truly given the whole land into our fingers; all of the humans are melting in fear due to us.”

Joshua 6

1 Now the gates of Jericho have been securely barred due to the Israelites. No one went out and no one got in. 2 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all of the armed men. Do this for 6 days. 4 Have seven priests deliver trumpets of rams’ horns in the front of the ark. On the seventh day, march across the town seven times, with the monks blowing the trumpets. 5 When you pay attention them sound a long blast at the trumpets, have the complete navy give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will fall apart and the navy will move up, everybody straight in.” 6 So Joshua son of Nun referred to as the priests and stated to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the LORD and have seven monks bring trumpets in the front of it.” 7 And he ordered the navy, “Advance! March across the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark of the LORD.” 8 When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD’s covenant followed them. 9 The armed defend marched beforehand of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear protect observed the ark. All this time the trumpets have been sounding. 10 But Joshua had commanded the military, “Do not deliver a struggle cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” 11 So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. Then the military again to camp and spent the night there. 12 Joshua were given up early the next morning and the monks took up the ark of the LORD. 13 The seven prists wearing the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the LORD and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went in advance of them and the rear guard observed the ark of the LORD, while the trumpets kept sounding. 14 So on the second day they marched across the city once again to the camp. They did this for six days. 15 On the seventh day, they were given up at dawn and marched across the city seven times in the same way, except that on that day they rotated the city seven times. 16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city! 17 The city and all that is in it are to be dedicated to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her residence will be spared, because she hid the spies we sent. 18 But keep away from the devoted thing, so you will not result in your own destruction by way of taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel susceptible to destruction and convey trouble on it. 19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the LORD and must cross into his treasury.” 20 When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and on the sound of the trumpet, while the men gave a noisy shout, the wall collapsed; so absolutely everyone charged immediately in, and that they took the city. 21 They devoted the city to the LORD and destroyed with the sword each residing thing in it—women and men, old and young, farm animals, sheep and donkeys. 22 Joshua said to the 2 men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s residence and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance to your oath to her.” 23 So the young men who had achieved the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her. They delivered out her whole family and positioned them in an area outside the camp of Israel. 24 Then they burned the entire town and the entirety in it, however they placed the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house. 25 But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she concealed the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and her families lives among the Israelites to these days. 26 At that time Joshua stated this solemn oath: “Cursed before the LORD is the only who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho: “At the value of his firstborn son he’s going to lay its foundations; at the value of his last born he will set up its gates.” 27 So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
