Jesus walk on water in Mark 6

Take note of Mark’s tone at the beginning and how it changes on the end.

The number of men who had eaten was five thousand.

Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and pass before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. And after he had left them, he went up at the mountain to pray.

And when evening came, the boat was out on the ocean, and he was alone on the land. And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night time he got here to them, strolling on the ocean. He meant to pass by them, however when they noticed him on foot on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, for they all saw him and have been terrified.

But without delay he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they had been totally astounded, for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts have been hardened (Mark 6:44-52).

Mark begin with a tone this is rely-of-truth however ends with astonishment. As Jesus got into the boat, the wind ceased, and that they were amazed. The risk was over. They didn’t understand. Their lack of understanding and “hardened hearts” didn’t keep Jesus from helping them.

Jesus walk on water in John 6

John (called the disciple whom Jesus loves)was Jesus’ closest friend. He noticed and recorded many things the others didn’t. What do you notice right here?

After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they started out to mention, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to return into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to return and make him king with force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

When evening got here, his disciples went down to the ocean, were given into a boat, and started throughout the ocean to Capernaum. It was now darkish, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea was hard because a strong wind was blowing. When that they had rowed about 3 or four miles, they noticed Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and that they had been apprehensive. But he stated to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were happy to take him into the boat, and straight away the boat was on the land to which they have been going (John 6:14-21).

John understood the feeding of the five thousand was a signal. He also took notice of what the people had to mention about it and how Jesus responded. Differing from Mark, John doesn’t file instructions from Jesus to cross the lake but attributes initiative to the disciples to do what they recognize. Then when they found themselves in hassle, they were glad to simply accept Jesus into the boat and that they right now arrived where they were going.

John’s account can encourage us to notice Jesus at work in our lives. Also, when we don’t get instant commands, to retain with what we’ve got previously been told. And in the end, to have confidence in Jesus while we find ourselves in hassle due to the fact he’ll get us in which we want to be.

Jesus Walks on Water in Matthew 14

Matthew’s account elaborates in addition at the situation from the other two.

They all ate and were happy, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken portions that had been left over. The number of those who ate was about 5 thousand men, except women and children.

Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he brushed off the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up at the mountain by himself to pray. When nighttime came, he was there by himself, however the boat via this time was a protracted way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was in against them.

And in the fourth watch of the night time he came to them, on foot on the sea. But while the disciples saw him strolling on the ocean, they have been terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and that they cried out in fear. But right away Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

And Peter replied him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come back to you at the water.”

He stated, “Come.”

So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he noticed the wind, he was afraid, and starting to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”

Jesus at once reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And the ones in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God” (Matthew 14:20-33).

Like Mark, Matthew records Jesus giving commands and the situation as though reporting it for the news. However, Matthew is the most effective person who records Peter’s reaction to the scenario, and their subsequent statement of the deity of Jesus.

Matthew’s account can encourage us that no matter how we begin, we are able to end well with Jesus. When Jesus was got in the boat the wind ceased. But first Peter walked at the water on the command of Jesus, demonstrating his power as the Word of God. This is visible again when Jesus calmed the storm once more with his word.
