What does it mean that God is the Alpha and the Omega

What Does it Mean that God is Alpha and Omega?

I’ll never overlook the day I bought my first Bible. I admit to being romanced by God; I was in the famous “honeymoon phase” of my courting with Him. My zeal for all things related to Christianity: sermons, scriptures, and Bible paraphernalia was at an all-time high.

I’d cautiously written my name in the cover of my brilliant, black Bible. I turned and traced the silk-easy pages to its first book. Genesis 1:1 reads, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

There’s a question that’s usually lingered as I’ve walked with God. Where was God before the beginning of time? It’s a question lots of us have asked, because as finite people, we understand God linearly. We keep in mind that there are beginnings and endings. We recognize life cycles, that we are born, we live, and in the long run, we’ll all physically die.

As non secular beings, God has rescued us from bodily dying. And it’s tremendous to realize that God was, is, and ultimately, can be. Yet what does it mean that God is Alpha and Omega?

God is the Alpha and the Omega
Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, and a title of Christ and God in the Book of Revelation.

What Does it Mean that God is Alpha?

Revelations 1:8, (NIV) tells us, “I am the Alpha and Omega,” says the Lord God, “who’s, and who was, and who’s to return, the Almighty.”

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines Alpha this way: something this is first. Other words for Alpha include beginning, introduction, and origination.

What a revelatory thriller this is! So much so, that our finite minds every now and then grapple with this grand announcement.

people have lots of their own “firsts”. At idea, a person life begins. Life occurs in a linear style. Babies achieve crucial milestones. Toddlers examine. Children grow and attain. Gangly teens transform into knowledgeable adults.

Jesus told Nicodemus “Unless one is born again, he can’t see the dominion of God,” (John 3:1-21). Our non secular transformation happens when a gentle God intersects our human life. God will become the “Alpha” of our person lives at our spiritual rebirth.

Applying the Concept of Alpha To Our Lives

  • God equips our unique beginnings: he supports our new endeavors. He is there when we make the choice to pack Up and circulate across the world. God is present every new morning: we’ve the ability to call upon the Holy Spirit first issue on every waking day. We can ask for his blessings and safety.
  • God can guide crucial decision: God delights when we first call on him for major decisions. When we depart the harder choice to Him, whilst we ask for his guidance first, we can recognize He is directing us towards what’s best for our lives.

I Corinthians 2:7 reveals the beauty of God’s understanding, “We talk God’s hidden wisdom in a mystery, a knowledge God predestined before the ages for our glory.” (CSB).

What Does it Mean that God is Omega?

When we revisit Revelations 1:8, we’re reminded that God is likewise our Omega: “Who is to come.” These awe-inspiring word delight me, however in all honesty, those words cause me to experience reverential worry.

As a finite being on the earth, I will at some point stand earlier than the Alpha and Omega of the galaxies. As a finite being, I admit to compartmentalizing the ultimate Creative visionary of the universe.

I Corinthians 2:7 well-known show the beauty of God understands, “We communicate God’s hidden knowledge in a mystery, a knowledge God predestined before a while for our glory.” (CSB).

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines Omega as the intense of the very last part. Other word for Omega are the closing, end, and perfection.

Applying the Concept of Omega To Our Lives

  • God has the Final Word: Invite him into all of your earthly matters and believe that his ideal will exists. As we each day give up our ups and downs to Christ, we ought to recognize that through surrender, God’s has the authority and power to handle each issue. Believe each scenario is under faith quality-control.
  • A Blessed Culmination: Never forget! A grand finale is coming. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has organized for folks that love him,” (2 Corinthians 2:9, NLT).
  • Our Earthly Stories End Well: Ups and downs. Hard and easy. No be counted! Because if God is our end, then we are able to look ahead to a Happily-Ever-After. Let’s consider his ideal will for every bankruptcy of our lives. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. God rewrites a new tale as we stay out our days with Him. He is the grandest editor of our earthly storybook.

Our Universal God Will Eclipse the Earth-Time Continuum

There’s a countless future imprinted on our hearts. A divine plan conceived before our earthly beginnings. God knew of us before our moms held us. God knew when we might begin our non secular journeys. He romanced us first. That’s the splendor of God as Alpha.

As Omega, God is getting ready a finishing shrouded in divine mystery. His foreknowledge determines how our testimonies will end. Beyond earthly thrones. Above cultural dynamics. More powerful than political institutions. What awaits us at the end of time is nearly unfathomable. And to think, this promise awaits His trustworthy believers who endure.

On Patmos, God gave Apostle John a vision for our future. “Then the only seated at the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new…I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end…The one who conquers will inherit this stuff and I could be his God.” (Revelations 21:5-6, CSB).

A.W. Tozer on the Concept of Alpha and Omega

Author of the conventional book, The Pursuit of God, A.W. Tozer wrote this at the concept of Alpha and Omega:

“If we grope again to the farthest limits of idea in which creativeness touches the pre-creation void, we shall locate God there. In one unified present look, He comprehends all things from everlasting, and the flutter of a seraph’s wing a thousand a while consequently is visible through Him now without transferring His eyes.

Our finite minds had been not intended to comprehend the mysterious King who was before the beginnings of earthly time. But due to his mercy and love, God humbled himself and became a person.”

Jesus himself embraced his own “Alpha and Omega” story on earth.

  • He became born of a virgin. (Luke 1:28)
  • He entered the temple as a younger boy. (Luke 2:41)
  • Christ started out his 3-year ministry, sacrificed himself on a cross due to the fact he cherished us, and cut through His own “time-space” continuum on our behalf. (John 18:37)

We Are the Bride of Christ

Believers are to put together themselves as carefully as a bride preparing for her future wedding. We can put together our hearts by spending time with our Bibles. We can get in our prayer “closets” and worship.

These easy moves put together us for faith perfection. A perfected faith on this planet prepares for a really perfect life in heaven.

“Let us be happy, have fun, and deliver him glory, due to the fact the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his bride has prepared herself,” (Revelations 19:7).

The New Creation

As we stay out our days (work, family, and social life) we can compartmentalize Jesus. We relegate God without on occasion understanding it. Here on the earth we enhance and remodel our earthly dwellings. We invent systems which make life simpler. We innovate and streamline life. As image-bearers, creativity resides in us. But the Grand Creator of Time Itself is making ready something better!

Friends, a future day is coming! This can be a day when God establishes a new heaven and a brand new earth. “Look, God’s residing is with humanity, and he’s going to live with them. They could be his peoples, and God himself can be with them and might be their God,” (Revelations 21:3, CSB).

May we always bless the name above all names! The Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end. The first and the last! The one that was, who’s, and is to come back! Amen.
